Guest mode

You can try Middleman without an account. Opening the dashboard signed out gives your browser a temporary guest endpoint with its own URL.

What a guest endpoint can do

• Receive requests at its URL and answer them 200 with an empty body.
• Record them in History, where you can inspect them.
• Try the template language in the tester on the Templates tab.

What it cannot do

• Save a target, so nothing is forwarded.
• Save templates, or run one on incoming requests.

Trying to save either asks you to sign up.

How long it lasts

A guest endpoint expires 7 days after it is created. The dashboard shows when. After that the endpoint and its history are deleted, and its URL answers 404.

Access to it is tied to a cookie in your browser. If you clear cookies or switch browsers, you can no longer open its History, though the URL keeps receiving requests until it expires. A new guest endpoint is created on your next visit. To protect the service, a network can only create a few new guest endpoints at a time.

Keeping it

Sign up or sign in from the same browser and your guest endpoint becomes your account's endpoint: same URL, same history, no expiry. Webhooks you already pointed at it keep working.

This happens only if your account does not already have an endpoint. If it does, the guest endpoint is left to expire.
